I can’t believe I haven’t updated this blog in soooo long.

Actually, I can believe it–because work/life has been so much busier than 4 years ago when I delved into the world of dog rescue.

Goals for 2010?  I’d like to help out another older, smaller dog–I have a thing for Chihuahuas these days (especially given the high rate they’re impounded in our local shelters).

My biggest dog rescue success from 2009?

Peanut the Chihuahua–a white Chihuahua from Downey shelter near Los Angeles.

I had him 8 months before my cousin in New York adopted him.

I’ll post a story about him shortly.

I bailed out a Chihuahua from Downey Shelter this week (part of the LA County shelter system) and I’ll post a picture very soon!  I know how bad the shelters get around Christmas time and I wanted to help another dog before 2008 ended.

I just had a visit with Dr. Waldman at California Animal Rehab, who has given a preliminary diagnosis of bone cancer for Batman.  He’s been lifting one of his back legs for about 2 weeks and my parents and I thought he hurt himself jumping off of my bed.  I was expecting to hear that Batman had a torn cruciate ligament.

It’s much worse…it’s bone cancer–and by the time it’s diagnosed, it’s usually already spread beyond the point of treatment.  All of the sudden it has hit me that he’s going to die…soon.  I need to take him for Xrays to confirm the diagnosis 100%.  However, it’s fairly obvious to me that cancer is what he has–he’s just not the same dog he was just a couple of months ago and I think this will be his last Christmas.  Batman was taken in by my family last year as our foster dog and we fell in love with him–I will keep everyone updated on his health.

Second, thank you for any loyal readers still standing by this blog.  I still get great comments from posts made over the last few years…and they always cheer me up.

Third, here yet another Stalk-a-razzi picture of the now infamous Jessica Biel dog I adopted named Tina; this time, she’s walking Tina with Justin Timberlakes two boxers.  I hope they play nicley together.

Fourth,  I’m going to be a lot more honest about my real feelings from now on about the rescue situation and all of the abandoned dogs.  I used to be afraid of confrontation with all the a-holes out there…but now I’m just going to be blunt and write about it on the blog.  Coming soon: my e-mail exchange with Jennifer Lee Pryor (Richard Pryor’s 10th wife or something) who runs a rescue foundation called Pryor’s planet.  Wait until you read some of the e-mails she sent to me–ummm, talk about someone that doesn’t play well with others.  I’m sure she was just having a bad life day.

You may remember how Tina (formerly Charlotte) looked as a puppy:

I went to an MTV party for a “famous” bulldog from the “Rob and Big” show. I’ll post pictures of that soon too. Meanwhile, I’m in bed with a horrible cold so I’m going to sign off for now.

A cute gray mouse was sick and just lying down on the sidewalk. I felt so bad watching it struggle. It didn’t even move for five minutes until I let it crawl onto my shoe. My goal was to get it back into the bushes so it wouldn’t cross the street.

Someone said that it was Ratatouille (from the movie). A few people stopped by to give their condolences to the little thing.

The young blond woman, whose name was Kelly, didn’t want to leave the mouse there (and neither did I). I said I would take it to my vet the next day if she could “babysit” it overnight.

We put the mouse in a “to go” box from the nearby restaurant and Kelly took it home.

Kelly called me about an hour later to let me know that our beloved WeHo Mouse had passed away while she was making it a little place to stay for the night.

Oh well… I think it would’ve been nice to have a happier ending, but the mouse was in pain. I hope it wasn’t poisoned.

Charity loves her new wheelchair. I took a video of her running all around the PoochHeaven ranch where Sherri lives. She’s a lot less anxious when she is with her new “wheels” and it doesn’t seem to hurt her at all. More news and a link to the video are coming soon!
